On July 23rd, a BSPB team fitted a GPS transmitter to a chick in a Lesser Spotted Eagle nest in the Natura 2000 site “Emine.” The young bird has been named Lara, and anyone can follow her movements HERE.

The tags are fitted on juvenile birds, before fledging. Tracking the eagles through satellite telemetry will help identify threats and causes of mortality among the birds during migration. It will allow for a deeper understanding of the species and, most importantly, provide more detailed information about its migration routes, preferred stopover locations during the long journey, temporary habitats, and many other crucial aspects of the Lesser spotted eagle’s life.

Since the beginning of the project, transmitters have been placed on 12 birds, and everybody can follow their movements HERE.

Tagging eagles with GPS transmitters is part of the activities within the LIFE project “LIFE for Eagle’s habitats”.
