A team from the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (Dr. Dimitar Demerdzhiev, Dr. Dobromir Dobrev, Nikolay Terziev, and Atanas Delchev from BSPB, along with Georgi Georgiev from the “Rusenski Lom” Nature Park) has identified six new pairs of Lesser Spotted Eagles during the regular monitoring of the species in the country. With these newly found pairs, the total number of recorded pairs in Bulgaria has increased to 179.

Three of the new nests were found in the area of “Rusenski Lom” Nature Park, one in the “Derventski Vazvishenia” Protected Area, one in the Ludogorie region, and the sixth along the Tundzha River.

The regular monitoring of the species in Bulgaria is carried out within the project “LIFE for Eagle’s Habitats” implemented under the EU LIFE Programme by the Executive Forest Agency in partnership with BSPB and the Southeast and Northeast State Forestry Enterprises.
