A field visit by forest experts and ornithologists to the territory of the Sakar Mountain revealed favorable nesting conditions for protected bird species. During the visit, specialists surveyed oak forest stands in the area of the village of Glavan, most of which border open areas, including agricultural lands. The experts identified suitable habitats for nesting protected bird species, including the Lesser Spotted Eagle, White-tailed Eagle, and other valuable species. The assessment of the surveyed forest stands indicated not only excellent nesting conditions but also a rich food base, which is essential for the conservation of these species.
According to the ornithologists, creating and preserving habitats for the Lesser Spotted Eagle by maintaining forests where it can nest also supports the survival of other rare species, such as tits, treecreepers, and even bats.
The visit was part of the fifth on-site meeting of the management and implementation team of the “LIFE for Eagle’s habitats” project, which is being carried out by the Executive Forest Agency, the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds, the Northeastern State Forest Enterprise (Shumen), and the Southeastern State Forest Enterprise (Sliven).
