Foresters from regional forest directorates and state enterprises participated in training on the application and monitoring of a methodology for assessing the regeneration and development of forest understory. The event took place in the “Petrohan” Experimental Forest Enterprise as part of the project “LIFE for Eagle’s habitats” LIFE18 NAT/BG/001051 under the European Union’s LIFE program.
During the two-day training, the experts were introduced to the key prerequisites for implementing the evaluation of natural regeneration in practice, as well as details on how to apply the discussed methodology.
On the second day, the assessment methods were discussed in the field, where the foresters explored the possibilities of applying them according to the site-specific conditions and regeneration circumstances.
The methodology was developed by an author team from the University of Forestry, the Forest Research Institute, and experts from regional forest directorates. Its application aims to provide an objective analysis of the natural regeneration in areas where sanitary and forced cuttings have been carried out. Experts are convinced of the benefits of applying the methodology, as it will aid in future planning of necessary forestry interventions and ensure the sustainability of forest ecosystems.
